The Pacific Coast Section of the National Shellfisheries Association Presents the
SILENT AUCTION FAQ for the Ken Chew Student Fund
What is the Silent Auction?
The Silent Auction is held at the conference each year, and raises funds to support the attendance of undergraduate and graduate students at the conference and the cost of publishing their abstracts in the Journal of Shellfish Research.
How does a Silent Auction work?
A room Is dedicated to the Auction, and Items are set up with a bid sheet and a label with the name of the donor, a description of the item, the value, and a starting bid. During the conference everyone can look at the items and write their "bid" on the bid sheet. At the close of the auction, the person with the highest bid wins that item.
Where do we get donated items?
NSA-PCS officers, members-at-Iarge, and members (including you!) can donate items personally, or solicit local businesses for Items.
What kinds of items will be at the auction?
Last year we had a wide range of items including books, T-shirts, ball caps, a kayak trip, charter fishing trip, scuba gear, cases of smoked oysters, gift basket of Pacific Northwest foods, unique seashells, paintings, carvings, ceramics, woven baskets, jewelry, and one night at a B&B In Port Townsend.
Click HERE to see a list of items already donated to the auction for the 2006 conference.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Absolutely! We can issue you a receipt listing the value of your gift and the NSA-PCS non-profit tax identification number for your records. See contact information below to get a receipt for a donated item or for more information.
Can I help gather donations?
YES!! Click HERE to download the Silent Auction Donation Form and HERE the Formal Letter describing NSA-PCS and the Silent Auction / Student Fund. Give these to prospective donors so they may understand what we're all about and how to donate.
Completed donation forms should be returned to the Silent Auction Committee members (see contact information below) and we will issue donors a receipt. You may bring the items to the conference, or call us for other arrangements.
